Title: Data Scientist 

Position Description: Support the test and evaluation of DHS technologies by providing data management and analytical expertise. Candidate will be responsible for exploring business processes, gathering, analyzing, and evaluating operationally representative data. Candidate will be responsible for planning data collection by designing tests (e.g., sampling strategies, DOE), analyzing data as it is collected and transmitted from test sites, and preparing reports to clearly articulate outcomes and trends using appropriate statistical methods. Candidate will work side by side with government customers, contractor development teams, and operational testers to ensure data models and business process goals are incorporated in the iterative testing process. As such, the candidate should have excellent interpersonal and written skills. Additional duties listed below:

Duties:

  • Plan data collection activities, to include identifying metrics, data elements, sample sizes, and sampling strategies.
  • Write data collection plans and reports/briefings.
  • Develop scripts, queries, visualizations, and/or dashboards to facilitate data tracking, anomaly identification and investigation, data authentication, analysis, evaluation, and reporting.
  • Facilitate customer meetings with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including senior officials.
  • Conduct statistical analyses, to include data visualization and statistical modeling.

Required:

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering/Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, Math, or Related Field
  • At least 12 years (10 years with Masters degree) of experience in an analytical/data science role.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong leadership and facilitation skills
  • Experience writing technical reports and briefings with analytical components, to include data presentation and visualization.
  • Proficiency with Python, R, Tableau, or similar analytics platforms.

Desired:

  • Masters or Bachelors Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, Math, or Related Field.
  • Experience with systems engineering and acquisition in DHS and/or DoD.
  • Experience with IT System Operational Testing and T&E within an Agile methodology.

Location: Telecommuting with onsite customer meetings in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan region when required.

Travel: Up to 10% travel required.

Clearance: Ability to obtain and maintain Department of Homeland Security suitability.
